Oh Seattle, how I love you for all the brilliant photo opportunities you gave me while I was there for a DAY. I can’t wait to visit you again to see what else I find.

My newest shoes, and a leaf

If you’re wondering why all the photos I have in the Mooncruise show are of feet, it’s because I was looking for shots that would work well together. As I was going through my holga photos to create a selection of my best images to submit I didn’t feel there was a common theme to bring it together because I tend to shoot fairly randomly with my holga. It was my feet shots (six in all) that stuck out the most as having something in common, so I decided to go with those. The full selection that I sent to Mooncruise can be found here.

After farewell

Walking back

This is one of the three shots on display in the Plastic* show at Mooncruise Gallery in Vancouver. The feet belong to my former boss, and I took the picture with my holga as we walked back to the office after my farewell lunch.

Fortuitous film finds

I’m so glad that I found three expired rolls of 120 Ektachrome 100SW film to take with me on my trip. I’ve had such good results shooting it with my holga and cross processing the film. This shot was taken in Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. As one friend has described, I “descended into some fantastic neptune’s world to capture this.”

Five after nine in the afternoon

Sorry for the lack of updates over the last week, but I’ve been on the road quite a bit. I’m visiting friends and family in Eastern Canada and I just came back from the mother of all road trips late last night. I’ll be back to posting regularly in a few days…

An unfortunate, but inevitable, side effect of digital photography is the reduction of film production by companies like Kodak, Fuji and Ilford. There just isn’t as much demand as there once was and so, many films have been discontinued and taken off the market. One such film that I wish was still made is the Fujichrome MS 100/1000. I was given a few expired rolls by Johnny Foto to cross-process and the results were excellent. I really wish this film was still around because I haven’t found anything that compares in term of colour saturation and texture when it comes to cross-processing slide film.

Taken with my Holga 120 CFN, using cross-processed expired Fujichrome MS 100/1000. I wish Fuji still manufactured this film because I really liked the results from it.
