Signs of spring

Signs of spring

I rarely take self portraits with my holga because my arms don’t seem to be long enough to meet the minimum requirements for getting myself in focus. But I wanted to take a spring-themed photo with the cherry blossoms, in focus or not, and finish the roll in my camera. I’m glad I took a chance with this shot because I’m very happy with how it has turned out. I managed to get the composition I wanted, even with my eyes closed… ๐Ÿ˜‰

What makes this an amazing image for me is its timelessness. The combination of the particular qualities of the holga and the lack of contemporary intrusion (simplicity of the clothing one can see and a classic hairstyle) mean this photo could have been taken 100 years ago. There is nothing to tie it to 2007 – you could be Zelda Fitzgerald in this one. Brava, Rachael.

Liz, thank you for always making such lovely comments. It makes a girl *blush*.

Hendrik, usually my aim with toy camera self-portraits is less than impressive. I was very careful this time.

Ruth, thank you for your comments. I did a tiny bit of retouching to the bottom of the frame to remove cars that were behind me. I felt they took away from the shot.

I’m always skeptical of giving her art. She doesn’t hang it up unless I do it for her. I will consider your hint…
