The Oracle

Oracle

For years I’ve had this idea in the back of my mind to create a series of digitally manipulated images on goddesses. I couldn’t figure out what exactly I wanted to explore with this work, but now at last I have. Rather than trying to reinterpret specific goddesses with each image, I’d think I will create each work based upon different archtypes or aspects typically represented by them.

This image, featuring my friend Susie, is the second completed image in this series. It took me a ridiculously long time to complete it because I became lost in the finer details. I will start on a third one soon.

Into the sun

Sky wires

Window light

Yesterday I decided to create a new set on Flickr called “Into the sun” to collect my photos featuring sunflare from shooting into the sun. It’s one of those things photographers are taught to try and avoid because sunflare can often ruin a good shot. The effect is one I’ve grown to like alot though, especially with the trash cams.

I’ll probably go blind from staring into the sun too much…

Painterly feline

Painterly cat

I feel a little silly posting a photo of a cat, but I really like this shot. The textures and colours of the peeling paint on the wall behind just make it for me. I decided to crop this to square, something I wouldn’t normally do, because the foreground was boring and distracting. Normally I tend to crop in camera, but I couldn’t get any closer because the cat was skittish.

Fortuitous film finds

Dragon fountain

I’m so glad that I found three expired rolls of 120 Ektachrome 100SW film to take with me on my trip. I’ve had such good results shooting it with my holga and cross processing the film. This shot was taken in Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania. As one friend has described, I “descended into some fantastic neptune’s world to capture this.”
